Intimate Lao & Vietnamese Wedding in Indiana
Sophie and Tommy had such an intimate wedding week that was very family oriented and honored both of their cultures. Sophie is Lao, while Tommy is Vietnamese. They had a beautiful studio session wearing their attire on Wednesday, and then a Lao and Vietnamese wedding ceremony at Tommy’s family home on a Friday, followed by a wedding reception on Saturday at Hotel Elkhart in Indiana. We also did studio portraits in South Bend, Indiana where Sophie wore the most beautiful Vietnamese dress!
The Wednesday prior to their Friday Lao and Vietnamese wedding ceremony and Saturday reception, Tommy and Sophie met me at a studio in South Bend, Indiana. Unfortunately, this studio is no longer operational, but served as the perfect backdrop for their portraits. We went for a white backdrop which really allowed us to give focus to their attire. These portraits were captured on film.
Sophie wore a traditional Vietnamese wedding dress known as an “áo dài.” It was long, fitted, and had long sleeves with a high neckline. It also had intricate embroidery of gold throughout. Sophie also wore a traditional headdress which is know as “khăn đóng”. Tommy wore a classic black suit and then changed into a traditional Vietnamese “áo dài.” It had an embroidered golden dragon which paired beautifully with Sophie’s attire.
Sophie and Tommy’s at-home Lao and Vietnamese wedding ceremony in Indiana was beautiful. It was obvious that they and their family put a lot of time and effort into bringing everything together. There were tons of cultural details and traditions done during this ceremony, such as their prayer at the altar, the tea service and candle lighting ceremony, and honoring their elders by involving them in the entire ceremony.
To end their wedding week, Sophie and Tommy held their wedding reception at Hotel Elkhart in Elkhart, Indiana. It was a stunning space. The reception was full of heartfelt speeches, great drinks, and a lot of fun dancing! It was the best way to celebrate them and their love.
Overall Tommy and Sophie’s wedding week was perfect, and it was so special to be a part of it and see them honor both of their cultures and witness them take part in traditions that I hadn’t witnessed before.
